PROJECTS
The Lions Club of Merrickville has been involved in many Projects over the years.
BANDSTAND In 2017, Lion Rod Fournier and a team of Lion Members proposed to build a bandstand in the Blockhouse Park. After a great deal of discussions with Parks Canada, permission was granted in May of 2019. A team of members and local volunteers lead by Lion Don Ramsey erected the bandstand and completed it in May of 2019.
COMMUNITY GARDEN In 2017, Lion Les Schryburt brought forth a proposal to establish a community garden. Located near the Merrickville Public School, it contains twenty garden plots for people to grow their own vegetables and flowers.
MERRICKVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY In 2006, the Lions Club purchased the Canadian Recreational Canoe Association building located at the beach behind the Community Centre. This was given to the community for a new public Library.
CAMPGROUND In 1959, the Lions cleared the rubble from a stretch of land located beside the canal for use by the community. In 1984, the Lions Club of Merrickville received permission from Parks Canada to build an office, storage building and washrooms. The Merrickville Lions Campground was established and operates to this day with 36 sites of which 24 are serviced with hydro and water.
